Fish Farmers

Mastering the RAS ecosystem

Building confidence

Fish production is about using the facilities in the best way to manage the RAS ecosystem in a way that benefits the end product – the fish. Besides designing and building fish farms that encourage the operators to do their best and enable them to fully use their professional skills as fish farmers, our task is to teach them how they can make the most out their RAS.

Our philosophy is that even though our farms are complex by nature, they should be easy to operate for skilled personnel. We have learned a lot from our customers, and in return we always try to refine our products. We want our customers to use most of their time on their fish and not on the technology.

Aquaculture Academy

Pure Salmon Technology Aquaculture Academy is our contribution to one of the largest challenges the aquaculture industry faces: the need for competent farmers.

In close cooperation with our customers’, our Aquaculture academy secures that every employee get the expertise and skills needed to operate the RAS facility without compromising the health and welfare of either the operators or the fish.

The training programs are customised to the specific needs and include all the different disciplines; process, fish health and welfare, electro and automation, and mechanical and maintenance. Our experience is that the training has the best effect when it meets the knowledge level of the trainee. The training sessions are therefore often spread out in time to accomodate for practical use of the aquired knowledge before taking the next step.

For all customers we recommend our basic training which gives all the employees the necessary background education for safe operation of the farm. For less experienced customers we offer add-on packages within all disciplines. Experienced farmers and experts might benefit from in-depth course in more specific topics.

Farmer Community

Experience takes time to build. Owners of a facilities delivered by Pure Salmon Technology have access to the Pure Salmon Technology Users Forum. This is a place to meet operators from other similar plants with similar challenges and solutions. What seems like a complex problem can often be solved with good advice from someone more experienced. The user forum is a great opportunity to keep up to date on recent developments and adress current issues. For Pure Salmon Technology the often unfiltered and direct feedback from our clients is a valuable source of ideas, improvements and inspiration.

Engaging classroom session

Training together with colleagues led by experienced personnel and experts from Pure Salmon Technology. We also use external sources and expertise if needed. The sessions are often full-day events with simple tests and quizzes to secure and engage multi-faceted learning experiences. Our sessions are accompanied by feedback surveys to collect your assessments and to secure continuous improvement throughout the education program.

On-site practical training

Some topics are better shown and practised than just talked about. This is especially useful in training prior to first operation. The operators get to know the plant and learn about the process functions and operation routines. Laboratory training, bioreactor maintenance and equipment service are further examples of topics for on-site practical training.

Mobile-ready eLearning experiences

On-line courses offer a flexible training. The increasing number of on-line courses include simple tests and quizzes to help track the progress.

The first use of the control system can be a bit challenging. Practicing in the safe environment of the NJORD control system simulator builds confidence before tackling the real operation.

Farmer Friendly Design

We do not forget the operators when designing a new facility. Easy but bio-secure access to and from the offices and control rooms to tank halls and water treatment departments. Shortest possible walking routes. Easy access to replace large and heavy machinery.

Automated operation with alarm systems that greatly supports the operation and give operational safety. Intuitive control system interface with extensive possibilites for analysis and optimisation. Hygienic design and materials suited for easy cleaning. Biosecurity locks that are uncomplicated and easy to use. Possibilities to receive visitors without compromising the biosecurity. Functional laboratories for monitoring the water quality and fish health. Comfortable social areas and practical accommodation facilities for the night watch or other personnel staying overnight.

We want the operators to feel that they are always working together with the farm and the technology and not against it. That they can spend more time on the fish and less time on the technology and support systems. And that they feel they master any situation.
