Pure Salmon France has received a positive approval given by the public inquiry commission in France from the context of the aquaculture farm and salmon processing in the public hearing in Verdon-sur-Mer (Gironde) to get environmental and construction permitting.
This major step validates the quality of the project carried out by Pure Salmon, as well as the rigor of the technical and environmental studies done over several years.
An innovative and responsible industraial project
The project aims to establish a land-based salmon farm (RAS technology – Recirculating Aquaculture System), making it possible to produce up to 10,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon per year, entirely raised, processed and packaged in France for local market.
This model has significant advantages:
- Complete control of farming conditions guaranteeing animal welfare,
- Production without antibiotics or pesticides,
- Extremely limited impacts on natural environments, particularly marine and wetland’s local environments.
In-depth consideration of enviromental issues
The favourable opinion of the commission of inquiry recognizes the in-depth work carried out on the main issues of the project, in particular:
- Preservation of water resources (especially freshwater resources),
- Treatment of all wastes and effluents and controlled discharge into the estuary, beyond reglementary limitations, taking due consideration of the brackish estuary
- Prevention of nuisances and risks.
The project is based on high-performance water treatment systems allowing a recirculation rate of more than 99%, thus limiting water resources use and discharge volumes.
Structure economic benefits for the territory
This new stage of the project is an opportunity for Pure Salmon France to reaffirm its commitment to the environment and the economic development of the region. Located on a site labelled “turnkey” by the French President, the Verdon-Sur-Mer Atlantic salmon farm project represents an investment of 275 million euros creating 250 local jobs, thus becoming one of the main economic players in the Médoc region.
A new step towards the realisation of the project
Following this constructive opinion, Pure Salmon will continue the next administrative steps obtaining the necessary permits for the launch of the project, which is planned for the 2nd half of 2026. The first commercialization is scheduled for 2030.
“This positive opinion is a decisive step for our project. It reflects the robustness of our approach, our environmental commitment and our desire to offer sustainable, local, and innovative salmon production. We remain fully mobilised to continue the dialogue with all stakeholders and make this structuring project a reality for the local territory.”

Pure Salmon Technologys role
Pure Salmon Technology is responsible for the design and dimensioning of the 10,000-tonne facility in Verdon-sur-Mer. The design covers the water treatment systems, process layout, capacities and flow, with fish welfare as a key design principle, ensuring stable operation, efficient resource use and consistent production conditions.
“We are pleased to see the project progressing. Our role is to bring solid technical experience into the design, and we look forward to supporting the realisation of this project.”
